GUADELOUPE, I love you !

friday love I LOVE Guadeloupe Islands

I love tasting your tropical fruits, picked in the garden

I love the sound of rain resonating on the roofing sheets

I love buying my fresh fish directly in the fishermen boats

I love your beautiful landscapes, visible at the bend of a road

I love the breeze of Alysés, on the afternoon sitting in the creole garden

I love the freshness of these moments along the rivers in your generous nature

I love feeling the sun burning my skin and just “SPLASH” take a dip in your blue sea

I love the sight of your sunsets, in one moment the sun disappears below the horizon

I love getting caught up by the rhythm of gwoka on Saturday morning at Pointe-à-Pitre

I love going to the beach in the early morning, having the feeling of being alone in the world

I love watching the hummingbirds, the lizards, the butterflies move serenely among your colorful flowers

And you, why do you LOVE Guadeloupe Islands?

GWOKA, the heartbeats of Guadeloupe

I woke up this morning with the sound of Gwoka in my mind. Gwoka is our typical music in Guadeloupe. This vibrant music is a key part of all Guadeloupe’ s lifestyle.
My very first contact with Gwoka was at school where I met a passionate teacher who passed on me the value, the message and the rhythm of Gwoka.
Gwoka was born during slavery in the past century, this music has been created by the slaves to help them endure the atrocity of their conditions and communicate with each other.

Nowadays, Gwoka music is played during all types of events in Guadeloupe.
